“Today together with the whole
country we celebrate the Day of the Heroes of the Fatherland. On this day according
to a tradition we honor the heroes of the Soviet Union, the Holders of the
Order of Glory. And, of course, on this date we could not forget our story, a
story that is directly linked to these wonderful people”- Shoigu said at the
opening

The bronze monument is situated on Frunzenskaya Embankment near the building of
the Ministry of  Defence. The composition reproduces a scene from the movie –
meeting of Alexei Trofimov, Ivan Varavva, the wife of Alexei Trofimov Liubov
and their grandson Ivan. Except for the senior management of the Ministry of
Defense, the ceremony was attended by the People’s Artist of the USSR Vasily
Lanovoi and People’s Artist of the RSFSR Alina Pokrovkaya, who starred in the
film “The Officers”.In his speech Vasily Lanovoi thanked with incredible energy all the heroes and
officers and has read two poems about the Great Patriotic War. After that,
together with Alina Pokrovskaya, who played the part of  Liuba he sang the theme from “The
Officers”. Many people
couldn’t help crying.
