The Vakhtangov theatre on the day of its anniversary, November 13, started a big worldwide tour of the “Eugene Onegin” production.

Lithuania was chosen as a first destination not by mere chance – it is a native land of Rimas Tuminas, theatre’s artistic director. The performance was twice performed on the stage of the National Theatre of Lithuania. The world tour went on in St.Petersburg within the framework of the International festival “The Baltic House”.

The next destination is France. The tour of the Vakhtangov theatre with the production “Eugene Onegin” will be held on the stage of the theatre MC 93, Bobigny, Paris, January 31 – February 5, 2014.

The dress-rehearsal of the performance on the Parisian stage is appointed on January 30.

“Eugene Onegin” is the most sincere Pushkin’s work, the most beloved child of his imagination, which reflected the personality of the poet incredibly fully, brightly and clearly. One witnesses here the whole of his life, his soul, love, feelings, concepts and ideals”. “Eugene Onegin” symbolizes wide-spread of Russia, of its characters, destinies, Russia’s customs, foundations, culture and nature.

The director Rimas Tuminas managed to unravel in his work some brand-new sense in the characters and the plot of the greatest Pushkin’s novel. “I’ve made an attempt to break the stereotypes, longing for polyphony, musicality, emotions, trying at the same time to avoid false lyricism. It was essential for me to unveil a new meaning in the characters and the plot”. (Rimas Tuminas)

The premiere of “Eugene Onegin” has caused a wide public resonance. The media has called it at once the brightest and the most extraordinary premiere of the theatre season. Despite its short period of existence on the Vakhtangov stage, the production and its creators have already been awarded several prestigious theatre prizes: The first theatrical award “Crystal Turandot”, The Theatre Prize of the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper “MK”, the Audience Choice Award “Star of a Theatre-goer”, the Direction Prize of the festival “Baltic house”, 2013.
