Rimas Tuminas and Maria Danilova are the winners of the XXth Anniversary National Theatre Award “Golden Mask”.
The Awards Ceremony of the Golden Mask Theatre Award was held on April 18 at the Bolshoi Theatre.
During the ceremony winners in 34 categories were announced. The Vakhtangov Theatre production of “Eugene Onegin” competed in seven categories: The performance of “Eugene Onegin” – nominated in the category “Best Performance in drama, large scale production”, Rimas Tuminas – “Best Director in drama. Large scale production”, Sergei Makovetsky – “Best Actor in drama”, Vladimir Vdovichenkov – ” Best supporting actor in drama”, Adomas Yatsovskis – “the Best work of a Set-designer in drama”, Maria Danilova – “the Best work of a costume-designer in drama”, Maya Shavdatuashvili – “the Best work of a lightning-designer in drama”. Among the “Eugene Onegin” production actors who came to the ceremony to encourage the nominees were: Yulia Borisova, Lyudmila Maksakova, Galina Konovalova, Alexey Kuznetsov, Vladimir Simonov and many others.
Rimas Tuminas was acknowledged “the Best Director in drama, large-scale production” by the jury of the “Golden Mask” for his stage-version of “Eugene Onegin”. The Award was given to Rimas Tuminas by the director of the Paris theatre “Comedie Francaise” Ms. Muriel Maietti, who visited the performance “Eugene Onegin” during its recent tour in Paris. Maria Danilova, a creator of the costumes for “Eugene Onegin” has become the second Vakhtangov winner of the Theater Award.
Rimas Tuminas and Lyudmila Maksakova had the honorable mission of awarding of the “Golden Mask” for best foreign production performed in Russia in 2013 to Luc Perceval “There, behind the door” (the “Tahlia” Theatre, Hamburg, Germany).
