September 17 – the 100th performance of “The HAVEN”.
On the occasion of its 90th anniversary season, the Vakhtangov Theater gave all theater-goers a unique opportunity to meet the actors who made its fame and continue its life – the production of “The Haven”, written and staged by Rimas Tuminas together with the directors Vladimir Ivanov, Alexei Kuznetsov, Anatoly Dzivaev, and Vladimir Eremin, set-designer Adomas Jacovskis, composer Faustas Latenas, costume designer Maxim Obrezkov and lighting designer Maya Shavdatuashvili.
Its premiere was held on November 11, 2011. This unusual performance-composition is woven of fragments of various works of different periods and authors: Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Bunin, Brecht, F. Dürrenmatt, E. De Filippo, A. Miller. The production is brilliantly performed by Yulia Borisova, Lyudmila Maksakova, Galina Konovalova, Vladimir Etush, Yuri Yakovlev, Vasily Lanovoi, Vyacheslav Shalevich, Irina Kupchenko, Evgeny Knyazev and many others.
Each of them represent his own theme, his own character and confession. Almost the whole theatre company are their partners. “The Haven” gave benefit parts to the Masters and the joy of working with them – to the youth. A small miracle of generations’ reunion happened. They all became again a family, and this is the distinguishing feature of the Vakhtangov Theatre. The performance was enthusiastically received by the public and the press; it became an central event of the theatre season.
The performance was marked by prestigious theatre awards, including: the award “Star of a Theatre-goer” in the nomination “Best Ensemble”, 2012; Stanislavsky Prize Foundation in the category “Event of the season”, 2012; Prize of the Theatre Union of Russia “Hit of the Season” (Season 2011-2012 ); National Theatre Award “Golden Mask” in 2013 (season 2011-2012) and many others. Two years after the premiere, November 30, 2013 one of the most prominent actors of this production, People’s Artist of the USSR, Yury Yakovlev, passed away. His passage (“Dark Alleys” by I.Bunin), sadly has disappeared from the playbills of “The Haven” as well. Yuri Yakovlev chose it for himself and brilliantly performed it with his partnet Lydia Velezheva.
But the show keep giving joy to the audience. September 17, Vakhtangov theatre Masters will perform “The Haven” for the 100th time! And let this fiesta of magnificent talent please and delight us for many, many years to go! The anniversary performance for those who can’t come and see “The Haven” at the Vakhtangov Theatre, will be broadcasted online on the official web-site of the theatre.
