The Vakhtangov Theatre turns 94 years old!

16 November 2015

Birthday celebrations will be held on November 15, at the New Stage of the theatre at 10.00 p.m.

The Vakhtangov Theatre welcomes its dearest guests – the pupils of Vladikavkaz Lunacharsky Gymnasium N5. The Gymnasium is the oldest school in the North Caucasus. In 2015, it turned 135 years old. The gymnasium is famous for the fact that the outstanding director and founder of the Vakhtangov Theater tobe, Evgeny Vakhtangov was educated here.

Vladikavkaz and the Vakhtangov Theatre are linked by a long-standing close friendship. Evgeny Vakhtangov was born in this city, where his father’s house is situated and where he spent the first 18 years of his life before having moved to Moscow. Vladikavkaz is especially proud of the Russian theater, which is named after Evgeny Vakhtangov, as well as the Moscow Vakhtangov Theatre.

In September 2015 Muscovites visited Vladikavkaz within the frameworks of the federal program “Great tour – 2015”. The tour took place under the slogan “The Vakhtangov Theatre – to the homeland of Eugene Vakhtangov!”. A hearty welcome accorded to the Vakhtangov theater in Vladikavkaz left the most vivid impressions on the Muscovites. At the end of the tour, the students showed a catching sketch-show, prepared especially for the guests from Moscow.

Wishing to give back as good as it got, the Vakhtangov theatre invited the school pupils to the birthday celebrations of the theater in Moscow. Travel costs and accommodation of children and teachers were covered by the Vakhtangov Theater. The children have prepared a short performance at the New Stage as a birthday gift for the Vakhtangov Theater.
