On February 7, 2016 the show “Masquerade” after Mikhail Lermontov is performed for the 100 time. The director of the show is Rimas Tuminas. Set designer — Adomas Jacovkis, Costumes — Maxim Obrezkov, Lighting designer — Maya Shavduashvili, Music — Faustas Latenas, Makeup designer — Olga Kalyavina.

National artist of the Russian Federation, laureate of the State Award of the Russian Federation Evgeniy Knyazev presents the part of Arbenin for the 100th time.

Baroness Shtral is performed by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Lidia Velezhova. Nina is performed by Maria Volkova and Olga Nemogay.

For the 100th time the snow wind of masquerade catches up our actors: Leonid Bichevin, Yury Shlykov, Alexander Ryshchenkov, Vladimir Beldiyan, Evgeny Kosyrev, Yury Kraskov, Vasilisa Sukhanova.

In the Vakhtangov Theatre “Masquerade” was staged for the first time by Andrey Tutyshkin with set design by Georgiy Moiseev. The first night was on June, 21 1941. Just on the eve of the Great Patriotic War. During one of the air attacks the building of the theatre was severely damaged by a bomb. During this attack a marvelous actor, the performer of Zvezdich’s part Vasiliy Kuza was killed. Thus, the War stopped this performance. But also forever shall remain a wonderful waltz created for the performance by Aram Khachaturyan and devoted to Alla Kazanskaya, the performer of Nina. This waltz has returned to the Vakhtangov Theatre almost 70 years since then.

Rimas Tuminas has brought back “Masquerade” to the Vakhtangov stage when he became the artistic director of the Theatre. Tuminas has renewed the show.

Rimas Tuminas sais: “I wished to see real Light, Death, Love on stage — the true entire passions which cannot be cheated. I risked giving the Romanticism and Romantic a chance to return to a modern stage”.
