The Vakhtangov Theatre is establishing the new theatre festival in Vladikavkaz (Russian Federation, Republic of North Ossetia – Alania), the Fatherland of Eugene Vakhtangov.

We plan to hold the festival ‘Vakhtangov. The Way Home’ once a year (might be changed to once every two years).

December 23, 2023, a government meeting was held in Vladikavkaz on plans for holding the Vakhtangov theater festival in Summer 2024.

The opening of the festival is scheduled for July 13, 2024. The date was not chosen by chance: “13” is Vakhtangov’s lucky number. On this day, a procession of street theaters and a carnival will take place on the main square of Vladikavkaz. We hope that the entire city and guests of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania will take part in the celebration.

The main program of the festival is expected to include theaters from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Arkhangelsk, Omsk and Makeevka (Donetsk).

The Festival participants are determined by the Festival management, the management of the Vakhtangov Theater, and the Expert Council.

The Expert Council of the Festival chose 6 shows for the first edition of the festival ‘Vakhtangov. The Way Home’:

⁃Donetsk Youth Theater – “Lefty” (Makeevka)
⁃ Lomonosov Theater – “Vasily Terkin” (Arkhangelsk)
