Rimas Tuminas celebrates his 70th birthday in Venice
Artistic director of the Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre of Russia Rimas Tuminas will celebrates his 70th birthday in Venice on the 20th of January 2022. In Italy Rimas Tuminas is staging Henrik Ibsen’s play ‘Ghosts’ at the moment.
In an interview to the Lithuanian newspaper, Rimas Tuminas modestly remarks that he does not consider the work in Lithuania and Russia to be some kind of event. Although his recent production of the novel ‘War and peace’ at the Vakhtangov Theatre was unanimously recognized by critics and spectators as a landmark in the history of the world theatre, – as Sputnik mentions.
Rimas Tuminas was born on January 20, 1952 in the Lithuanian city of Kelme. He has headed the Vakhtangov Theater since 2007. Now in Vakhtangov there is a decade of performances by Tuminas – from January 11 to 20, every day the performances of the master are on the poster. On January 20, ‘War and Peace’ will be shown.
In an interview to TASS (Russian News Agency) Rimas Tuminas said: “I’ve arrived to Venice on January, 2. The premiere of the ‘Ghosts’ is scheduled to the 3th of February at the Goldoni Theatre. Marvellous theatre, one of the most beautiful in Italy. My hotel is nearby the Karlo Goldoni monument. Thus, I’m surrounded by elements connected with Goldoni and this makes life to be more light, festive”.
