Pavel Popov

Graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in 2016 and joined the First Studio of the Vakhtangov Theatre immediately after graduation. In 2018, he was invited to the main theatre company.

Pavel Popov is one of the leading actors of the young generation of the Vakhtangov Theatre. His characters are varied and unpredictable, the emotional level seems to reach beyond any limits.

The actor plays main roles in the performances of Rimas Tuminas, Yury Butusov, Rimas Tuminas, Natalya Kovaleva, Avtandil Varsimashvili, Ulanbek Bayaliev and other famous directors.

In 2015, Pavel Popov was starring as the desperate and mysterious Krapilin and in ‘The Flight’ after Michail Bulgakov, staged by Yury Butusov. In 2016, he portrayed quiet, weak, inconspicuous Tikhon Kabanov in ‘The Storm’ after the famous Alexander Ostrovsky’s drama, staged by Ulanbek Bayaliev. Later on, he performed sinister Another Peer Gynt in ‘Peer Gynt’ after Henrik Ibsen, staged by Yury Butusov (2019). And in 2021, theatre Moscow was charmed by his good-natured, noble and faithful Pierre Bezukhov in ‘War and Peace’, staged by Rimas Tuminas.

Since 2025, Pavel Popov is starring as the genius Soviet physicist Lev Landau in the production ‘Landau Sun’ by Anatoly Shuliev.


Began cinema career in 2009 and already took part in about 40 projects. Pavel Popov is known to the movie spectators for his recent works, such as ‘Secret Love’ (2019), ‘Just Imagine Things We Know’ (2020) and ‘Flashpoint’ (2020).


Pavel Popov won ‘Choice of MK-magazine’ award several times and received the Letter of Gratitude from the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, 2021.
