Filumena Marturano (1956)
The premiere took place on December 23, 1956.
Critics spoke about the performance: “The theatre seems to be watching the life of a small man in a capitalistic world with sorrowful pensiveness, but does not actively and ruthlessly dethrone this life style”. This was true. The theatre indeed watched the life of a small man and sympathized with him. A new criterion of sincerity, openness, dramatism appeared. The performance was decorated by M. Saryan, but not the outrage of the pictorial art, but laconism of simple construction and precise selection of few colors made the image of the performance. A wooden balustrade of an open terrace with light arches, golden-orange columns, bright blue sky. On this background, a simple family story develops in the center whereof there was a woman, housemother, like it often happened with neorealists.
