Seagull (2002)
You will see gloomy ruins on the stage and prethunderstorm sky in the background. “The Seagull” is considered to be the most ruthless and mysterious of all Chekhov’s plays. Here people do not listen to each other. They brawl, fall in love and duel. Each of them is conceited, selfish and peddling. Each of them strives for glory. It is impossible to figure out who is talented and who is not. But what if all of them are mediocre people and so are their lives?
“The Seagull” directed by Pavel Safonov is lavish with humour and that makes the tragic aftertaste not so depressing. Rapture and dazzling, ravishing harmony remain when the curtain falls.
