Boris Zakhava

People’s Artist of the USSR, the USSR State Prize Laureate, Doctor of Fine Arts, Professor Boris Yevgenyevich Zakhava was born on 24 May 1896 in Pavlograd.In 1913 he entered Vakhtangov’s Student Theatre Studio.He worked at the Vakhtangov Theatre from 1914 till 1959.B.Y. Zakhava worked as a teacher since 1917.Since 1925 he headed the Vakhtangov’s Theatre School.He was the Director of the Uzbek Studio in Moscow (1927-1930), a teacher at the Institute of Cinematography (1937-1940), the Head of the Direction Department in GITIS (1944-1949).He was the Doctor of Fine Arts, Professor. He wrote books and articles on the theory of acting and directing art, theatre pedagogy.Boris Yevgenyevich Zakhava died on 12 November 1976 in Moscow.
