Don Juan and Sganarelle (2005)

The performance took place in the program “Gold season”. Vladimir Mirzoev and Maxim Sukhanov, a famous and inseparable duet of a stage director and actor, present the performance “Don Juan and Sganarelle” on the stage of the Vakhtangov Theatre after the play by Moliere “Don Juan and the Stone Guest”. Each performance going out thanks to good graces of the two like-minded men attracts spectators by its unusual and unexplainable style. It’s only in their performance that Don Juan may be not just a trivial heartthrob, but also a bluesman. Vladimir Mirzoev followed the adventures of the devious seducer Don Juan (Maxim Sukhanov) and his servant Sganarelle (Evgeniy Stychkin) with wonderful blues compositions performed by the popular band “Hot Rod Blues Band” and soloing Maxim Sukhanov. In this musical kaleidoscope the “vicious” master with his pious servant travels from one fair lady to another. But neither honorable donna Elvira (Natalia Shvets), nor young countrywomen Charlotte (Anastasia Vasilieva) and Maturine (Maria Shastina) can stay in his moody heart for a long time. Watching Donna Louise (Don Juan’s mother) who is smoothly portrayed by Marina Esipenko manipulate her son’s feelings (she flirts with him like a real coquette acting like a girl or a woman great with child or a middle-aged lionne) one starts to understand where source of all Dion Juan’s problems is. Maxim Sukhanov is an indisputable king of this performance. His Don Juan can charm and gain any woman’s heart with just one glance or intonation.
